The Photograph on the left shows a home trainer with a new resistance device mounted on the frame instead of a stack of weights.

The new resistance device has the following characteristics:
- Smooth and noiseless operation;
- Ensures a non-inertial load that makes injury-free condition during the work out;
- Possibility of performing exercises at any desired, even the highest pace;
- The maximum force is 102,5 kg.
- The loading variation step is 2,5 kg.
- Dimensions are 200 ´ 90 ´ 144 cm (H´W´L);
- Weight is 110 kg.
The weight of the resistance device mounted on the frame is 41 kg and the device can produce a non-inertial isotonic resistance in the range from 2,5 to 102,5 kg with a 2,5-kg step. The resistance can be further increased.
Load range and steps can be adjusted with a minor design change. Load variation during exercises does not vary more than 1% - 1.5% (no other strength training machine can match this characteristics when exercises are performed above slow pace).
The vacuum pneumatic device is very reliable. Extensive testing showed that the main operating elements of the vacuum device are operable for at least 15 million usage cycles. The operating elements can be easily replaced.
Device's applicability:
The new device is fit for functional training like no other machine on the market, it's main quality is that exercises can be performed at any speed (even the highest of paces) and are only limited to the speed at which the user can perform them. At the same time the resistance level varies only 1% - 1.5% which is unattainable by other fitness machines.
The new loading unit is intended for application in sports (home, Fitness, Wellness) and rehabilitation medical strength trainers.
Technology Development
The vacuum pneumatic technology was developed by a team working at "Ship Company Standarte", a shipbuilding and research company (www.standarte.ru).
The research team leader and head scientist of the project at "Standarte" was Alexander A. Klimenko, Ph. D. Doctor Klimenko is an engineer and physicist. Patent protection was obtained for the vacuum device (Russian Federation Patent). The vacuum pneumatic device is currently patent pending.
